In presenting this volume, we have endeavored to perform two duties; first, that of entertaining and interesting the reader in the tales, sketches and poems, and secondly, to produce some evidence of the value and useful character of the Institution, that its claims of benevolence and virtue may be the more readily seen and apreciated.
