COLONIAL AND IMPERIAL CONFERENCES

Between the years 1887 and 1937, fifteen Colonial and Imperial Conferences were held. There were five Colonial Conferences, the last one taking place in 1907 when it was decided to change the name of Colonial Conferences to Imperial Conferences. The first Imperial Conference took place in 1909 and the last one in 1937. There followed afterwards, the Prime Ministers' Conferences or Commonwealth Conferences which took place in 1946, 1948, 1949, 1951, 1952 and 1953. No official reports of the latter meetings were issued in Great Britain or in Canada other than statements to the press.

The Reports of the Colonial and Imperial Conferences are found in some 27 Volumes containing the Proceedings of the Conferences, the Appendices thereto and the Papers laid before the Conferences.

All these have been summarized in three Volumes: Volume I containing the Colonial Conferences from 1887 to 1907, Volume II, the Imperial Conferences from 1909 to 1921; and Volume III, the Imperial Conferences from 1923 to 1937. In other words over six thousand pages have been reduced to some twelve hundred pages. An introduction precedes each Conference and an Index will be found at the end of each volume.

The three volumes have been compiled, edited and indexed by
