to obferve to this right honourable houfe, that if the propofitions had paffed in the ftate in which they were originally introduced into the British houfe of commons, it is evident, from the alterations which that honourable houfe has fince judged it expedient to make in them, the most fatal confequences must have enfued to the landed, funded, and commercial interefts of Great Britain; and though fomething has been done, much more remains to be effected, and which your petitioners hope for, from the wisdom, integrity, and independence of your lordships.

Your petitioners are fully convinced that no fyftem but what prefcribes a participation of burthens, as well as advantages, can either be fair, equitable, or permanent, and therefore they are of opinion, that a complete union in commerce, policy, and legislation, is the moft probable means of establishing a lafting harmony and good-will between the two nations, and preventing that jealoufy and difcord which the prefent propofitions are fo very likely to promote and encourage: but fuch fyftem, they humbly apprehend, can only be the refult of mature deliberation, and which your petitioners prefume there is not time to establish at this advanced period of the feffion.

Your petitioners therefore moft humbly befeech your lordships, that they may be heard by themfelves or counfel at the bar of this right honourable house, againft the faid propofitions: and that your lordfhips will grant them fuch relief as to this right honourable houfe fhall feem meet.

And your petitioners shall ever pray, &c.
